What is your strategy for web design? Do you go for a design that you like, or maybe ask a few friends what they think? The best strategy for web design is to think first about your customers, and what they need. Your customers will be the ones using it and relying on it to do business with you. The design of your site will be a critical part of their user experience, and when your customers have a good experience, they will reward you.

So what elements of design make for a good user experience?

• Quick loading pages. No one wants to wait for pages to load. This is another area that you can test yourself. If you get frustrated, then your customers are, too.
• Well placed videos. Customers will appreciate videos put in all the right places. They do well on product pages, especially complicated products or unique products, and also on the About Us page. You may want a video of you, or the owner of the business explaining why you do what you do. Customers love to know why; it helps them get on board.
• An easy to find search. Make sure the search box is large enough to be easily seen (within 8 seconds), and works well.  Go ahead and misspell something, and make sure the right products come up for common misspelling.
• A Contact Us form that works. Some Contact Us forms seem to send information into space, and it never comes back. Make sure you know how to check your contact us form results within your website manager so that you can respond to inquiries.
